If you've attended a My Story event at the Twisp Library before, you know you'll have a great time hearing short, true stories told by your friends and neighbors. This time around, we're hosting My Story at the Winthrop Library Community Room so that the elders and staff at Jamie's Place Adult Family Home can participate and be our storytellers! Come to the Winthrop Library for this extra-special edition of My Story. Refreshments provided by the Twisp Library Friends.

The Winthrop Library is located at 112 Norfolk Road, Winthrop.

The Right to Read shares the stories of an activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read.

When a child can’t read, their chances of incarceration, homelessness, and unemployment increase. That's why Oakland-based NAACP activist Kareem Weaver believes literacy is one of the greatest civil rights issues of our time and is fighting for better reading instruction. “What good is winning the right to vote if we can’t even read the ballot?” Fed up with the bleak reading scores in his own community, Kareem files a petition with the Oakland Unified School District demanding change.

Drop in at Wisdom Tree during Twisp's Art Crawl to visit with poet Susan Lagsdin and celebrate the release of her poetry collection Never Again That Simple, just released by Methow Press. Susan will read selections from the collection periodically during the crawl.
